Each month, we'll give nine awards to spotlight the people, colleges, and organizations that are doing innovative things for FGLI students. 

Each of the winners will receive a digital badge that can be used on LinkedIn and other online platforms.

Joseph is from Los Angeles, and is majoring in psychology. He/ They hold(s) a number of leader-ship positions in campus clubs, including Students Against Food Insecurity. 

We're crushing on UCI this month for its great graduation results: 46% of its bachelor's degree graduates are first-gen, and 41% are limited income (eligible for a Pell grant).

QuestBridge is known for help-ing low-income high-school students attend their dream colleges. It also helps its alumni get accepted to, and receive, scholarships from grad schools.

We cannot say enough about this raw, and extremely personal book that tells the story of a first-gen student who succeeded, despite an extremely difficult childhood.

The Greenlight Match program is an innovative tool that flips the college application model. Students create profiles, colleges review them, and make admission offers.

Fabulous Faculty Member

Dr. Jack is an Assistant Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and author of The Privileged Poor, about how elite colleges reinforce inequalities, despite expanding access.

Sensational Staff Member

Jemima Gedeon is the Assistant Dean for Student Success at Barnard College (a women's college in NYC). She advises and mentors FGLI students, and is a first-gen college graduate.

Dr. Newlin is a tireless advocate for students who come from rural areas. His podcast, The Rural College Student Experience, features a student co-host on each of its episodes.
