Each month, we'll give nine awards to spotlight the people, colleges, and organizations that are doing innovative things for FGLI students.

Marco is a 2023 graduate and the recipient of the uber-prestigious Fulbright award. He’ll participate in a cultural exchange program at the Universidade de Aveiro in Portugal as part of his English Teaching Assistantship.

Wake Forest is crushing it for its freshly-minted early-action application that is only available to first-generation college students. The deadline to apply is November 15th, and non-binding decisions will be released on January 15th.

Fabulous Faculty Member

In addition to being a tenured Associate Professor, Dr. Wanzer-Serrano is the Interim Director of the Race and Ethnic Studies Institute. He advocates for “making universities more inclusive and meaningful for underrepresented students”.

The University of Pennsylvania offers a bevy of support programs for FGLI students, including a four-week summer bridge program and a four-year College Achievement Program (CAP). It was also the 2022 IvyG Student Conference.

Texas A&M's Routh First-Generation Center is a dedicated resource hub to support, serve, and celebrate first-generation students from admission to graduation!

Kevin hit the trifecta by participating in TRIO's three core programs (Talent Search, Upward Bound, and Student Support Services). He was a first-gen student and is paying it forward in his role as an SSS.

This non-profit hires recent college grads (more than half of whom were first-gen/Pell-eligable), and places them in under-funded high schools as near-peer advisors to FGLI students. It's a win-win!

Kourtney has worked for the Posse Foundation, founded Student Enrichment Services at Northwestern, co-founded the FGLI Consortium, and now serves as VP in Global Philanthropy for JPMorgan.
